We have arsenal to go all the way, says CSK's Hussey
With the knockouts around the corner, Chennai Super Kings know that they can ill-afford to drop guard in their final fixture against Kings XI Punjab.
The defending champions, in their previous two matches, put up a superlative show against table-toppers Delhi Daredevils (home) and Kolkata Knight Riders (away) to stay alive in the tournament.
At the MAC, Mike Hussey, who along with M. Vijay, guided Super Kings over the ropes after Ben Hilfenhaus’ heroics with the ball dismantled the Delhi unit. Hussey said that the win had rejuvenated the entire team. “The mood is upbeat in the dressing room.
It was an excellent show, particular by the pace bowlers. We would need to keep the winning momentum going to reach the playoffs. The next match is going to be a massive contest,” said Hussey.
Hussey lauded compatriot Hilfenhaus for his match-winning effort. “Ben has an innate talent to swing the new ball and that is his biggest asset.
His action (low trajectory) is different to Doug Bollinger and Albie Morkel. Ben’s confidence is sky-high after an exceptional Australian summer and more recently his good show in the West Indies.
He is level-headed and that is what helped him get over the thrashing he received at the hands of Dwayne Smith the other night. I spoke to him after the Mumbai loss and he said that these things do happen in T20.
Ben added that he had only gained more experience from the outing. He has done well to bounce back,” noted Hussey.
Super Kings, according to the Australian batsman, have the arsenal to go all the way. “We have been in these kinds of tight situations in previous seasons too. We have shown a lot of character while getting back on track.
The key is that we don’t rely on one or two star players. Each one of them contributes towards the team’s success.
For example, in the game against Rajasthan, youngster S. Anirudha walked out and produced a match-winning effort when the chips were down,” added Hussey.
Hussey’s association with the Chennai unit has weaved many a successful story.
When asked what the secret was, the left-hander replied: “I haven’t got any magic portion in my kit which I go around sprinkling around the dressing room (laughs).
No, but seriously, I love coming to Chennai and I enjoy playing here. This is a great unit and it’s been a fantastic journey so far,” concluded Hussey.
