Dambulla, Aug. 27: The Indian top-order had a prolonged session at the nets on Saturday. Whether the practice had purpose is a matter of conjecture. By the look of it, the team would be praying for another sterling effort from the in-form Virender Sehwag. Skipper M.S. Dhoni will not mind who scores the runs as long as they keep coming to provide the bowlers a reasonable score to defend.

“Batting has been an area of concern, we are hoping it turns out well in the final and we are hoping to get a par score that will help our bowlers. Who scores doesn’t really matter. Sehwag is a free-flowing batsman who likes to play his shots, hopefully his good form will continue. We are looking at contributions from all batsmen,” said Dhoni.

Fielding has been another grey area. The skipper agreed. “It is the small things that really matter. If you take care of the small things the big steps take care of themselves. We have to get our basics right,” noted Dhoni.

In a tournament that has been topsy turvy, making use of the conditions will be crucial. “If you are bowling first trying to make use of the conditions is important. There will be a strong breeze bowling across the field, if the bowlers can take help of that and pick early wickets and restrict the opposition batsmen from accumulating too many runs then we can set the base from there,” said the captain.
