‘Will leave no stone unturned’
Acknowledging that the image of cricket had taken a beating following the spot-fixing scandal, Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday said that he would leave no stone unturned to restore the game’s lost glory.
Dalmiya, appointed on Sunday as an interim head of the cricket control board at its emergency working committee meeting, voiced his determination to make all efforts to achieve the ultimate goal so that “the good name of cricket is retained”.
On banning cheer leaders and after match parties, the 73-year-old said, “There’s a possibility of that. I don’t have any medicine so you can expect an instant result but we will try our best.” He indicated that scrapping the strategic time-out would also be considered.
Addressing a news conference here, Dalmiya gave former BCCI treasurer Ajay Shirke another 24 hours time to reconsider his decision.
“As far as (former BCCI secretary) . Jagdale is concerned, he has no intention of withdrawing his resignation and that is the stand so far. However, we have not received any communication from (former board treasurer) . Shirke. I will wait for another 24 hours as I’m an optimistic man,” Dalmiya said a day after stepping into the shoes of board president N. Srinivasan
Responding to a query as to who would fill the vacancy created by secretary Sanjay Jagdale’s resignation, he said, “If there is a vacancy then it will be filled up. The decision will be taken but it has not been taken yet.”
On spot-fixing, he said, “Cricket is a gentleman’s game. Right now, we are passing through a difficult time and we will try to overcome it.”
