Young talent add fun to event
Hyderabad, Sept. 18: An overwhelming bunch of more than 200 youngsters from the twin cities and other parts of the state like Vijayawada, Eluru and Warangal thronged the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy here on Saturday.
The keen kids were present there to display their badminton skills during the last day of the ‘Talent Search’ — an initiative of Deccan Chronicle Sports to identify gifted players and provide them quality training at the Academy — conducted alongside a corporate badminton tourney.
The second day of Let’s Shuttle — the three-day corporate badminton tournament was action packed with Apollo Hospitals and Qualcomm making it to the final of the mixed doubles team event.
Qualcomm and Tata Teleservices were the other quarterfinalists who made it to the last four of the men’s doubles team event.
In the other event named ‘Bring it On’ conceptualised on triples open team championship, IAS Officers, Qualcomm, Tata Teleservices and Tata advanced to the next round.
After the final matches on Sunday, actors Nagarjuna, Amala, Tarun, cricketer R.P. Singh will hit the badminton courts alongside former All-England Open badminton champion Pullela Gopichand and World No.3 Saina Nehwal during the “Sound Off” celebrity exhibition matches.
