Yuvraj recovers, but will he play?
Dambulla, Aug. 20: Middle-order stalwart Yuvraj Singh has been declared fit and will be available for the tri-series game against Sri Lanka here on Sunday. The left-hander who reportedly suffered mild attack of dengue fever has recovered completely, according to team manger Ranjib Biswal.
The left-hander, who spent close to 30 minutes batting in the nets, did not look too comfortable against the medium pacers and was hit frequently on the pads. Facing the spinners, the former vice-captain struggled to find his timing especially on the big hits.
Yuvraj’s rustiness should not come as no surprise as this was the first time he has had a knock after August 14. The batsman had clearly struggled for rhythm in the opener against New Zealand, scoring five runs off 25 deliveries.
Yuvraj could come back into the team at the expense of Virat Kohli, who failed to trouble the scorers against Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma will also be under the scanner after managing only four runs in two innings. Coach Gary Kirsten did not mince words with Rohit during practice. An animated conversation followed after Kirsten had a set of throw downs at the batsman.
In order to optimise the time available, the players were divided into two batches. With rain robbing the team of valuable time, the team management thought it was the best possible way to give maximum time for batsmen in the nets and also keep the bowlers fresh.
The medium pacers spent quality time concentrating on spot bowling to improve their accuracy. The session culminated with a rigorous fielding session.
