Zaheer out of 3rd Test
Hyderabad, Nov. 16: After a tame end to the second Test against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, the Indian side received a jolt when Zaheer Khan was ruled out of the third and final Test due to a groin injury.
He has been replaced by Saurashtra’s Jaidev Unadkat for the Nagpur Test that begins on Saturday. A BCCI spokesperson said, “Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the next Test between India and New Zealand at Nagpur. Zaheer will be replaced by Jaidev Unadkat.”
Zaheer bowled only 7.3 overs – 4.3 on the fourth day and 3 overs on the fifth — in the second innings against the Kiwis. The left-arm pacer’s absence could prove to be a big loss for the Indian team that is looking to win the third and final Test to take the series 1-0.
Zaheer has been a vital cog in the Indian bowling line-up for the last few years. He has played a key role in the M.S. Dhoni-led side achieving the No.1 status in the ICC Test rankings.
