Beauty with brains and talent
Beauty contests have always remained popular worldwide and are one of the most sought-after contests till date. Even now girls aspire to win titles and enter the world of glamour and glitz. After having Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and many other beauty queens conquer the world, a lot of girls still look forward to prestigious titles year after year.
I have been fortunate enough to be a part of these contests for almost 10 years now. Lately, I have had the honour to be a part of Sushmita Sen’s “I Am She” pageant. All these contests might have different brands and organisations supporting and encouraging them, but the one thing in common is the search for a beauty queen who will bring the lost titles to India.
Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai made India proud in 1994, thereby inspiring scores of young girls to aspire for the prestigious titles year after year. I recently came across Tanvi Singla, who won the I am She contest and left for Miss Asia Pacific World contest to be held in South Korea, where 58 beautiful women will compete for the esteemed title.
Every pageant looks for beauty with brains, which means that the girls not only have to be stunning, but also display some sort of impressive talent as an important trait of their personality. Tanvi is indeed one girl, who is not just pretty but also has an immense amount of talent. An 18-year-old from the city of Mysore, she is set to make Indians proud at the Miss Asia Pacific World contest. Moreover, as a dancer she is surely going to wow the judges and audiences there.
Each time a girl goes to represent India at an international platform, one has to think of a new and dynamic approach for their talent round. I decided to choose the theme of Power of Women for Tanvi this year. In India, we regard women as our Goddesses. She is known to be compassionate, generous, feminine, intelligent and beautiful. That’s what Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati represent. They represent the strength of a woman and the strength to fight for justice. Through Tanvi’s dance performance, we are displaying the myriad emotions of a women’s heart and her feeling. That’s the power of women in India and all across the world.
To make all my concepts come alive on the international platform, I have been taking help from well-known Kathak exponent Vijayshree Choudhary. She is a disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj and has been working tirelessly with me for a decade now. In order to make Tanvi’s dance even more powerful, she enfused the concept of ada, some sculptural inspirations from the legendary Khajuraho temple and the forceful Tandav to bring life into Tanvi’s dance.
With this level of preparation, I’m sure she won’t go wrong. A lot of effort has gone into this and it’s her moment to show the world what she is all about. I believe we can achieve anything in life if you keep God and your loved one’s blessings with you.
