‘4 pesticides found in veggies, fruits’
After hearing the submissions by amicus curiae in connection with a PIL alleging rampant use of banned pesticides in fruits and vegetables, the Delhi high court on Wednesday decided to hear the issue on March 9.
Amicus curie V.K. Rao and Saket Sikri submitted to the HC that there were four pesticides banned under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act and the ingredients of those were found in vegetable samples tested in a laboratory.
While disposing of another PIL on the issue, the court asked counsel Sugriv Dubey to assist it in the matter and accepted the report prepared by NGO Consumer Voice which has conducted a study on the matter.
The amount of pesticides used in eatables in India is 750 times more than the European standards. The court took suo motu action on media report about growing pesticide use in the vegetables.
