‘500 missing kids still not traceable’
Appearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) member secretary, Asha Menon, on Wednesday told the Delhi high court that more than 500 children who have been missing for last one year have not been traced by the city police as yet. Ms Menon said that the list of missing children prepared by it did not match with the number prepared by the police.
Opposing the submissions, the government counsel said, 270 children have been traced from various places and it has prepared a report about the reasons why they leave their houses and work in different establishments.
After hearing this, the court sought an affidavit from the police and directed them to produce at least five children, recovered by it, before the DLSA to interact with them.
The court had earlier directed the police to probe if the children were kidnapped for trafficking. Taking a suo motu cognisance, the division bench had directed DLSA to monitor as to whether the police register FIRs in the missing children cases.
