‘Deadlines near, bulk work still undone’
Former Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan has charged that though the Commonwealth Games are just 95 days away, roads and footpaths leading towards the main stadia are all dug up, with just 19 to 38 per cent of the work having been completed so far.
Dr Vardhan said that as per information gathered under the RTI Act, it appears that the government is carrying out the preparations for the Games in haste. “The work of covering Sunahari and Kushak Nullahs for creating parking facility near JLN stadium, DPS Nullah for training and construction of foot overbridge across Bhishma Pitamah Marg is incomplete and work in several stadia is still to be carried out,” Dr Vardhan stated on Tuesday.
He further said that various projects relating to Games have been delayed deliberately so that the construction work could be awarded to the loyalists by resorting to time constraint excuse.
“Only 19 per cent of work on improving and strengthening 5th Avenue Road in front of Mehar Chand Marg and 30 per cent of Bhishma Pitamah Marg leading to JLN Stadium has been carried out so far. Besides, only 32 per cent work of work on Surajkund Road and 38 per cent of Shooting Range Road is over,” Dr Vardhan said, adding that the information is based on the reply by the government to an RTI query. He further added that only 36 per cent of work on Maharshi Valmiki Marg leading to Thyagaraj Stadium and 25 per cent of Dilip Singh Marg leading towards Siri Fort Complex is over. Also just 31 per cent of work on Harsukhdev Marg and 36 per cent of Jhandu Singh Marg leading towards RK Khanna Tennis Stadium has been completed.
Dr Vardhan said that monsoon is expected to arrive soon and the Met department has predicted that there would be more rain in the month of September, which would further delay the Games’ preparations.
