There are over half-a-dozen hostels that are being renovated for the Games where officials or players are scheduled to be staying. SRCC hostel, Ramjas Hostel, Hindu College hostel, Hansraj hostel, Miranda House hostel and LSR hostel are being renovated. The hostels were vacated in the first week of May and the students will be allowed to return only after the Games is over. The colleges have spent amount ranging from Rs 40 lakhs to Rs 2.3 crores to renovate the hostels.
The university authorities have replaced the dilapidated furniture with brand new furniture giving it a world class look. The students staying in the renovated hostels will be charged double the security amount. “We are planning to double the security amount owing to the amount that has been spent on the hostel. The hostels will look world class,” Mr Singh said.
Meanwhile, the teachers and students are up in arms against the authorities for the inconvenience caused to the students.
