‘Foolproof security for event’
Seeking to allay the fears of athletes and delegates participating in Commonwealth Games after concerns in the wake of attack on foreign tourists near Jama Masjid, Delhi police commissioner, Y.S. Dadwal after meeting Union home minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday assured that the arrangements for the Games are “foolproof”.
“The security arrangement for the Games are absolutely foolproof. We have put in place an impregnable security cordon and there should be no doubt about this at all,” Mr Dadwal said after a meeting with Mr Chidambaram. “It (Jama Masjid firing) will have no impact on the Commonwealth Games security. There was one sting operation conducted by an Australian media channel that proper security was not in place. All the claims of the reporter are bogus and they are not correct at all. We have put in place a proper security cordon and people have been prohibited from reaching that place from today,” he said.
“Checking was to start from the point from where this person turned back and claimed that he had managed to enter the security cordon without a security check. He went till where he could but there were no checkpoints there, so how could he be checked?” Mr Dadwal said.
“As far as Delhi is concerned, as I said, all possible arrangements have been made,” he said.
