‘Govt failed to check theft at Games sites’
Raising questions on the safety of materials being used in the Commonwealth Games preparations, Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta on Saturday asked if the city government can not protect them how would they protect foreign sports persons and sports lovers during the mega-sporting events.
“When the government is not able to prevent theft of the goods being used for the preparations of the Games, how would the organisers ensure the safety of the sportspersons and tourists,” asked Mr Gupta.
BJP chief also asked what safety measures were being taken in the backdrop of intelligence inputs about likelihood of terrorist attacks during the Games. Mr Gupta stated that the people in the city wanted to know about the preventive measurers being taken by the government to meet such intelligence inputs.
“The government itself admits that valuable construction materials and important articles collected by various departments for the Games are being stolen on a large scale. At Munirka on outer Ring Road and on other three flyovers, 18 panels of sound barriers have been stolen. Power cables, designer grills to be fitted on footpaths, junction box cover of high mask light, imported tiles, stainless steel sheets, electrical equipments, modern lamp posts, sheets for modern bathrooms, expensive red stones have been stolen. This theft continues and the police is helpless,” Mr Gupta charged.
