‘Killer’ Bluelines to stay, avoid venues
Joining the growing list of projects having missed their deadline, the planned phasing out of the Blueline buses before the Commonwealth Games is likely to be the next in line. With the manufacturers of the low-floor buses having expressed inability to provide the vehicles, Delhi government is now looking at altering the routes of Blueline buses after failing to phase them out to avoid embarrassment.
Delhi government had on a number of occasions reiterated that Blueline buses would be phased out before the Commonwealth Games. However, with the mega sporting event now being less than two months away, there are no signs of Blueline buses phase out and it is very likely that the “killer” buses would continue to ply on the city roads a little longer even after the Games are over.
Delhi government had placed an order of 3,125 low-floor buses to Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland.
So far, senior transport department official said that 2,214 low-floor buses have been delivered which include 1,250 air-conditioned buses.
Delhi government has now decided that the Blueline buses would not ply around the Games venues from September 15.
“Routes of 1,300 buses will be diverted and only DTC low-floor buses will be allowed to move around the Games venues from September 15 to October 30,” stated a senior official.
