‘Sajjan involved in murder during riots’
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday told a Delhi court that senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was allegedly involved in the murder of people during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots by giving provocative speeches.
CBI counsel D.P. Singh told the additional sessions judge (ASJ) Sunita Gupta, “Sajjan Kumar addressed a meeting after which the crowd identified the houses of Sikh community, looted it and killed the people, thereby creating mayhem all over the locality.”
Opposing the argument of the CBI, I.U. Khan and A.K. Sharma, the defence counsels accused the CBI lawyer of misleading the court by alleging that the agency did not have the statement of any witness who saw Mr Kumar addressing the mob from the particular place at Sultanpuri.
The court has fixed May 24 the date for the formal framing of charges against 62-year-old Kumar.
“We want to prosecute Mr Kumar for the murder of Surjeet,” Mr Singh argued.
