‘Shobha’s marriage enraged kin’
Police sources said on Tuesday that the third person found murdered in Delhi, a woman named Shobha who was a cousin of a woman slain on Sunday in an honour killing, had angered her family a year ago by eloping with a youth from a different community.
On Sunday evening, Mandeep Nagar, Monica’s brother Ankit and their friend Nikku allegedly borrowed the Santro from one Rahul, related to Monica’s husband Kuldeep, the sources said, adding that they first went to Monica’s Ashok Vihar residence. Monica, who was alone at home, was shot dead by the assailants. Things get somewhat blurry from here as Monica’s husband’s body was found in his car parked outside his residence. Kuldeep, too, had been shot dead.
Trying to connect the dots, the police suspects that the three accused went to Shobha’s Ashok Vihar residence on Sunday and that Mandeep asked Shobha to accompany them to trace their sister, Khushboo, who too had eloped with a youth from a different caste. Shobha’s decomposed body was found in the black Santro on Tuesday.
“What provoked the killing spree is not clear. But Shobha’s father, Jai Singh, told us that his son Mandeep took Shobha out on Sunday evening on the pretext of searching for Khushboo (his youngest daughter), deputy commissioner of police (northwest Delhi) N.S. Bundela said.
Mr Bundela said evidence has been collected from the car.
