‘Toll tax higher than fixed rates’
The MCD House on Monday said that the contractor entrusted the toll tax collection task was charging rates which were nearly 20 per cent more than the actual rates. The issue was raised by the Leader of the Opposition in the MCD House, Jai Kishan Sharma, and was also supported by the councillors from the ruling BJP.
Mr Sharma alleged that the existing toll tax rates had been approved by the MCD House in February 2008 but the concessionaire (contractor) was charging nearly 20 per cent more on all categories of vehicles.
Elaborating on the issue, Mr Sharma said that the MCD fixes the toll tax rates each year before February 15. In February 2008, the rates were fixed as follows: `25 for taxi, tempo etc; `50 for bus, truck and canter; `100 for six-wheeled vehicles and `500 for 14-wheeled vehicles. But since March 2008, the concessionaire has been charging toll tax at rates 20 per cent higher than what was approved.
