‘Whitewash homes prior to Games’
The Delhi government on Tuesday in an appeal asked citizens to get their houses whitewash ahead of Commonwealth Games. The government, apprehensive of people’s disenchantment with the Games due to controversies surrounding it, also asked them to celebrate the event as a festival, as urged by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Delhi finance minister A.K. Walia requested people to whitewash and paint their houses in September which otherwise would have been done before Dussehra or Deepawali. “This will go a long way in projecting a better image of the city,” stated Mr Walia.
The city government in the appeal has sought full support of the people in making the city look “attractive” during the Games.
