1 killed, many hurt in mishaps
A labourer was killed and several others injured in two separate road incidents reported from the city in the last 24 hours.
In the first incident reported in the Kalkaji area of southeast Delhi, a labourer was killed while three others suffered injuries after they were hit by a Tata 709 dumper. The police officials said the accident occurred at around 3 am near Nehru Place flyover.
The incident took place outside a Games construction site in Nehru Place last night. The labourers were engaged in removing mud from outside the site when the mishap took place.
The deceased, identified as Lallu, 35, and other labourers were loading material into a Tata 407 dumper when a speeding Tata 409 hit them from behind. The labourers suffered severe injuries and were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre where Lallu was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The three injured were identified as Ganga Singh, Sanjay and Umar Mohammad. All the victims hail from Patkanagar in Rajasthan. The police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the absconding driver of the dumper. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the errant driver.
In another accident, scores of Army jawans had a narrow escape when the front tyre of their chartered bus got punctured. The vehicle hit the pavement in Chanakyapuri. No one was hurt in the accident.
