1 lakh cases decided in Lok Adalat
Nearly one lakh civil and criminal cases, including traffic challans, were settled at the mega Lok Adalat that was held here on Sunday in all the district courts, as well as the Delhi high court. In all, at least 80,000 traffic challan matters were settled, while `18 crores was awarded in more than 1,200 cases related to motor accident claims.
Following inauguration by Supreme Court Justice Altamas Kabir, the six trial courts as well as the Delhi high court took up nearly 1.1 lakh matters that had been listed for business in the Lok Adalat on Sunday. The civil and criminal compoundable cases that were dealt with on Sunday pertained to matrimonial disputes, cheque bounce, rent/ electricity, labour disputes and traffic challans.
Talking to reporters, Delhi high court Chief Justice Dipak Misra said that more than 16,000 such cases were decided. “Some courts had to work till evening due to the heavy load,” he told reporters. Justice Misra further said that there were plans to hold another similar Lok Adalat at a suitable time in the near future.
