1 lakh DDA flats for LIG and EWS
In order to rehabilitate people living in illegal and unauthorised colonies in the city, the Delhi Development Authority will build one lakh houses till 2015 for people belonging to low income groups (LIG) and economically-weak sections (EWS).
DDA vice-chairman A.K. Patnaik on Tuesday said work on over 20,000 such houses has started in areas such as Dwarka, Narela and Rohini while construction of around 24,000 flats for LIGs and 5,000 flats for EWS will begin shortly. At least 8,000 of them will be ready by the end of 2012, he said.
“The focus on constructing one lakh houses for low income groups and those belonging to economically weaker sections in the next three and a half years is with a view to rehabilitate the people living in unauthorised and illegal colonies, which come in the way of development projects in the city,” he told reporters. Mr Patnaik said there are over 1,600 illegal and unauthorised colonies in various parts of the city and the land authority is working to construct houses for the rehabilitation of their residents.
