129 challaned for straying into lane
Even as the number of vehicles challaned for straying into the dedicated Games lane increased from 39 to 168 with 129 vehicles being fined on Tuesday, Delhiites seem to be getting around to grinning and bearing the inconvenience of driving through a squeezed space, something they are not used to.
According to the Delhi traffic police, at least 129 vehicles were challaned and notices were sent to 43 others who escaped.
Delhi traffic police sent out a thank you message through a social networking site for people’s cooperation in operationalising the lane plan.
DTC sources said that the corporation earned over `2 crores on Monday, which was `50 lakhs more than the average. Delhi Metro recorded its highest ridership on Monday with 15.5 lakh commuters.
However, problems for the office-goers continued. Traffic snarls were reported from NH No. 8, Sardar Patel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, Bhishm Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, National Highway No. 24, Bhairon Road, Ring Road and August Kranti Marg.
