19-yr DU student gangraped, one held
A 19-year-old student of Delhi University was allegedly abducted while she was waiting for a cab and later raped by four men in an autorickshaw in Mandawali area of east Delhi, the police said.
The incident took place on November 3, two days before Diwali, when the victim was leaving for her office in Noida where she works at a multinational BPO as a calling executive. The police said one accused, identified as Rambir, 26, the autorickshaw driver, has been arrested in connection with the case and a manhunt is on to nab the three other accused.
In her statement to the police, the victim, who is a first-year student of B.Com. (correspondence) at Delhi University, told the police that the accused threatened to kill her in case she told anyone about the incident.
“I was waiting for my office cab when three men forcibly dragged me into an auto at around 4.45 am,” the complaint filed with the police states.
“I had come out of my residence and was waiting for the cab when the accused dragged me into the auto. The four men then took turns to rape me before dumping me near ITO at around 8 am,” it states.
A senior police official said the victim then boarded another auto after gaining senses and reached her residence where she narrated the entire incident to her parents.
The victim’s family members later lodged a complaint at the Mandawali police station on November 7.
“We took her to a nearby hospital where a medical examination confirmed that she was raped. A case was registered and the investigation was handed over to a team led by a woman ASI,” the official said.
The police said the two other accused are residents of nearby localities and they have been identified. “We are questioning Rambir to ascertain the whereabouts of the other two accused. They will be arrested soon,” the official said.
