2 cops arrested for extorting money
The Delhi police on Monday arrested two of its serving policemen from the Delhi University Metro station area for allegedly demanding extortion money from a scrap dealer at around 2.15 pm. Cases of extortion and abduction have been registered against the accused policemen Anil and Hitler Singh. While Anil is serving in Delhi police’s 1st Battalion, Mr Singh works with the northwest district of the Delhi police.
According to the investigating officers, the accused picked up 51-year-old Ruh Allah Khan from his Sonia Vihar shop on the pretext of questioning him. The accused took the scrap dealer for a drive in a WagonR car to the ISBT area and told him that they have information that he has been selling stolen goods, the added. “The accused claimed that they work with the CBI,” said the police.
In the FIR, Ruh Allah has mentioned that the accused demanded Rs 5 lakhs from him. When he denied to pay the money he was beaten.
Later, however, the two men agreed to accept a sum of Rs 50,000 from him. The victim called a relative Wasihuddin to bring the money at the Delhi University Metro station.
“Wasih called the police and a police team was immediately dispatched with Wasih to the spot,” said the investigating officers. Mr Anil and Mr Singh were apprehended from the DU Metro station area. On interrogation they have named two more associates who had planned the extortion. However, police is still searching for the two other associates of Mr Anil and Mr Singh. The two policemen will be produced in a Delhi court on Tuesday.
