2 get 28 years’ jail for murder

By observing “life can never be same for victims”, a city court has awarded 28 years in jail to two youth for murdering the owner of a house in which they attempted to commit robbery and also for firing at police officials after they were intercepted while trying to escape from the place.

Additional sessions judge Anju Bajaj Chandna, while sentencing the convicts Rambir Jakhar and Nitin Nagpal, noted that although the present case does not fall under “rarest of rare cases” but “this certainly is a rare case and the convict(s) must be dealt with strict hand and they deserved no leniency.”
The convicts were handed down 7-year imprisonment for attempt to commit robbery (393) and criminal conspiracy (120-B), life imprisonment for murder (302), which will run concurrently whereas, other sentences also include life imprisonment for attempt to murder (307) and attacking public officials during the discharge of his duty (332/353) would be served consecutively.
The court refused to show mercy to both Rambir and Nagpal and said, “The conduct of both the convicts demonstrates that they had no value for human life and for the purposes of gain they adopted cruel means in executing their ill design.”
The court also imposed a fine of `135,000 on each the convict. Besides the duo, Sidharth Bansal, the third person was convicted for criminal conspiracy.
According to the prosecution, on June 23, 2005 while on their bid to commit robbery, the duo had barged into the residence of Giri Raj Kishor and shot him dead. But due to the continuous call at the door, the convicts tried to escape from the back door. Later when the four police officials tried to stop them, they shot at officers on duty without hesitation.
The four officials are; Additional SHO Kharak Singh, ASI Harish Chand, constable Dharampal and Ravinder. Two of them were seriously and permanently injured.
