2 held for ATM cash van heist
The police has arrested two persons in connection with the `36 lakhs ATM cash van robbery that took place in Mansarovar Park area of East Delhi.
A senior police official said the accused were identified as Mohammed Azim and Mohammad Nazim. The police recovered `11.38 lakhs from their possession.
The police said that the accused had prior information about the arrival of the cash van.
“The two planned the robbery and roped in their two friends,” said the senior police official.
Azim called his friends Haroon Pasha and Mashroor to join them. Nazim arranged the car while Haroon procured countrymade pistols and a fake number plate.
Azim replaced the number plate of the car and started following the cash van near Karkardooma Court on August 2. After reaching the ATM in Mansarovar Park, Azim, Mashroor and Haroon got down from the car which was driven by Nazim.
”Haroon took on the guard, snatched his rifle and beat him with the butt of pistol. Azim beat up the driver while Mashroor robbed the cash. The accused fled to Loni where they threw the snatched rifle,” said the official. The accused distributed the money among themselves.
“We conducted a massive search. The vehicle used in the robbery was spotted near Brahmapuri. We then traced the accused and arrested Azim and Nazim, the official said.
