2 held at Jamia for impersonation
The Delhi police has arrested two youths, including a woman, from the Jamia Millia University on charges of impersonation during an entrance test.
The police said Vikrant, 24, a resident of Gaya in Bihar, and a 28-year-old woman were arrested moments before a medical entrance test was scheduled to begin in the university.
The two were caught when the photos on their identity cards did not match with the photographs taken just before the start of the entrance examination on Saturday.
“The photos which were collected during submission of application by college authorities and the photo taken just before the exam did not match. The police was alerted by Prof. Illyas Hussain, the centre superintendent of Jamia Millia, who tipped the police and the two were caught,” the official said.
Sources said the woman was appearing for a girl applicant from Gaya in Bihar.
“During questioning, she revealed that the original applicant’s father had requested her to appear on behalf of his daughter as she was not good at studies. The applicant’s father had offered to pay the accused a handsome amount of money for appearing on her behalf,” a senior police official said.
Sources said Vikrant was appearing for a youth from Patna who had paid Rs 2,000 as advance to him and had promised to pay Rs 10,000 more. A case of forgery, cheating and impersonation was registered against them.
