2 held for rape attempt on minor
A 12-year-old girl student was held hostage and molested by two youth near Rashtrapati Bhavan in Chanakyapuri area on Sunday. The accused tried to rape the victim but she started screaming for help following which the accused fled.
Police sources said the accused, identified as Amit and Ranjeet, both in their twenties, forcibly took the victim into a bathroom near former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar’s residence in Chankyapuri’s South Avenue area on November 27 where they molested her. The accused threatened the victim not to narrate the incident to anyone or face dire consequences. The victim was so terrified that she decided to keep quiet and didn’t tell anyone about her ordeal.
“On Sunday, the two accused, who are residents of Dhobi Ghat area in South Avenue, again forced the victim into the bathroom where they molested her. The accused then tried to remove her clothes and attempted to rape her. This time, the victim started screaming for help which caught the attention of a passerby. Sensing danger, the accused ran away. The police was informed and the victim was taken to South Avenue police post where her statement was recorded,” a senior police official said.
The victim is a student of Class 7 at a government school.
“We have registered a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and the two accused have been arrested,” the official said.
