2 held for snatching chain
Two youth were arrested while trying to flee after snatching the gold chain of a woman police constable in southwest Delhi.
The police has identified those arrested as Jitender Bhardwaj, 20, and Hemant, 19.
With the arrest of the two youth, the police claimed to have solved five cases of snatching and one case of auto theft. A snatched gold chain and a motorcycle were recovered from them. The incident took place in Prem Nagar in Najafgarh on Saturday evening when Sonia, the Delhi police constable, and her sister-in-law were walking home.
Two men riding a motorcycle snatched her gold chain and she raised an alarm.
A sub-inspector, Yogender Kumar, who was on way to the police station after attending a call regarding a quarrel, noticed the commotion and chased them.
“With the help of the public, Kumar succeeded in overpowering the duo,” DCP (southWest) A.K. Ojha said.
Bhardwaj used to work in a factory in Nathupur in Haryana. He was first arrested in 2010. After being released from jail, he was jobless and later met Hemant.
Hemant did not want to live in poverty from a very young age and hence he got separated from his joint family and brought his mother to Delhi. He solemnised his marriage recently against the wishes of his relatives.
