2 IAS officers face perjury charges
For deliberately misleading the court and concealing facts that were relevant to the judicial proceedings, a city court has summoned as accused two IAS officers and another city government official to answer charges of committing perjury in another court.
Following the complaint of perjury by a senior civil judge-cum-rent controller, hearing a land allotment case, chief metropolitan magistrate Vinod Yadav issued summons to the officials, including a former secretary in the Delhi government’s industry department and deputy commissioner Darshan Singh in the office of the commissioner of industries.
“The above respondents have no sanctity for the law of the land and made false statement, false averments as well as filed false affidavit in judicial proceedings as such they are liable to be punished for the same,” the CMM said.
“I have perused the complaint. A close scrutiny of the complaint reveals there is enough material on record to proceed in the matter against all the three accused persons for offences punishable under Sections 193, 109, 110, 111 (pertaining to perjury) read with 120-B (criminal conspiracy) IPC,” he said.
While issuing summons to the city government’s former secretary in the industry department, the court did not identify him, but expected the city authorities to serve the summons to the relevant official, allegedly involved in committing perjury, after identifying him.
The court also issued summons to a third unnamed official, expecting the government to identify him. CMM Yadav issued the summons to the three on a complaint by senior civil judge Ajay Goel accusing them of deposing falsely in his court during adjudication of a property suit. The summons were issued on the judge’s complaint charging the three officials with lying under oath and misleading the court.
The CMM asked the Subzi Mandi police station in-charge and the Delhi administration’s chief secretary to ensure service of summons to the three officials for their appearance in the court on April 16.
