2 Nigerians beaten for kidnap bid
The south Delhi police has registered a case under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 511 (attempt to commit offences which attract life punishment) of the Indian Penal Code against two Nigerian nationals following allegations that one of them tried to kidnap a child from a locality in Mehrauli area on Friday evening.
While the child managed to escape, the villagers beat up the two Nigerians, following which they had to be admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre. However, the police said that it appeared to be more a case of suspicion than any actual attempt on the part of the accused. No arrests have been made.
According to the police, a child had gone to buy an ice-cream in Ambedkar Colony, Chhattarpur pahari, in the Mehrauli area late on Friday evening. There, a Nigerian national came up to him and allegedly tried to kidnap the child. However, he raised an alarm and managed to escape.
Hearing the commotion, the other residents of the locality gathered there and began beating the man up. When his roommate tried to intervene, he too was beaten up. Somebody then called up the police control room, following which the two were taken to AIIMS trauma centre. Their condition was reported to be stable.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Nigerian nationals had been staying in the locality for the past three to four months on rent. Earlier too, other nationals have stayed in the same locality as tenants.
