3 arrested for drug trade, ganja seized
The crime branch has arrested three persons in the city for allegedly running an inter-state drug trafficking racket.
The police said the gang leader, Sagar, 19, used to fly to Kolkata to strike deal for ganja. “Sagar was arrested with his associates Sanjay, 26, and Tejvir Singh, 22, from Outer Ring Road. We recovered 137 kg of ganja worth `7 lakhs from their possession,” DCP (crime) Ashok Chand said.
Sagar procured the banned drug from Kolkata and brought it to Delhi. “They purchased ganja for `1,000 per kg from Kolkata and sold it for `5,000 per kg in Delhi. The contact brought the ganja from Sambalpur in Orissa. They have been running the racket for the past two years,” DCP Chand said.
“Sanjay is involved in six cases of bootlegging. The gang uses Singh’s car to smuggle ganja from Kolkata to Delhi. He undertook two trips per month and charged between `35,000 to `40,000 per trip,” Mr Chand said.
