32 blackbucks die in zoo, 2 rhinos also ill
Over 32 blackbucks have died over the last few days in Delhi zoo and two rhinos face life threat after consuming sewage water that flowed back into their enclosures from a drain opening in the Yamuna. The zoo officials admitted that other blackbucks and rhinos also face threat. The zoo is now left with less than 100 blackbucks.
Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh has asked wildlife expert Kartick Satyanarayan from the NGO, SOS Wildlife, to work on a plan to ensure that the rhinos do not go close to the moats.
Mr Ramesh instructed the officials to devise a plan to ensure that the dirty water does not flow back and the animals are safe.
