4 held for train robbery in city

Four persons have been arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly being involved in a robbery in Unchahar Express train on February 4.
According to the police, the four accused, identified as Satish, 22, Mukesh, 20, Raj Kumar, 24, and Anil, 21, were arrested on Friday. All the accused were arrested in Panipat.
During interrogation, the accused told the police that on February 4, they had boarded the Unchahar Express at Samalkha railway station and carried out the robbery between Samalkha and Narela. The incident was reported at Samaipur Badli railway station in outer Delhi. The accused disclosed that three more associates were involved in the incident.
The incidents of robbery in moving trains had recently witnessed an increase with at least eight cases being reported in the last three to four months.
The robbers would board the trains as passengers and then carry out the robbery near smaller stations like Narela, Samaipur Badli or Shahdara. They took advantage of the topography and got down at places where the trains slowed down due to technical reasons. Or else, they would also pull the chain and vanish from the scene under cover of darkness.
The police said efforts were on to track down the other absconding members of the gang.
