443 new dengue cases in 4 days
In an alarming rise in the number of dengue cases in the city, 443 new cases were reported since last Friday. The dengue season seems to be peaking in the capital with the number of cases rising to 1,355 from 912 on September 19, registering a 50 per cent rise in cases in last four days as per a report released by the MCD on Monday.
While the official toll still stands at two, five persons have reportedly succumbed to the disease.
The North Corporation recorded 663 cases, South 351 and East 238. Besides, 48 cases were reported from regions outside the jurisdiction of MCD and 26 cases in other category. Most number of cases were reported from Rohini (291) and Narela (133) in the North Zone. Najafgarh (104), Karol Bagh (106) and Civil Lines (111) also posted above 100 figures.
Public relations officer of North and East Delhi municipal corporations, Yogendra Singh Mann, said, “Fumigation and anti-larval routines are being carried out. It is due to several construction activities in North that more cases are reported from there.
“Over 6,000 cases were reported in 2010 due to construction activities for the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
The city witnessed 6,000 dengue cases in 2010, over 1,300 cases in 2008, 1,153 in 2009, 1,131 in 2011 and 2,093 cases last year.
Meanwhile, cases of malaria have gone down with 22 cases reported so far compared to 28 last month, the report said.
