45-year-old labourer dies of cold
Biting chill claimed the life of a labourer at Model Town in northwest Delhi, the police said on Monday.
The police said, 45-year-old Karamvir was found lying dead outside a temple in Bharat Nagar area of northwest Delhi. Karamvir was working as a menial labourer and his body was spotted by a pedestrian who alerted the police control room.
“His body was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for post-mortem. Karamvir was a native of Sonepat, Haryana, and he apparently died due to cold. We are trying to trace his family members,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, biting cold continued to prevail in the National Capital Region on Monday largely due to strong winds blowing through the day. However, the strong winds cleared fog which helped the fliers. But the railways continue to bear the brunt of fog elsewhere in the country with more than 85 trains running late.
According to the weatherman, the maximum and minimum temperatures in the city on Monday were recorded at 15.6 degrees Celsius (five degrees below normal) and 4.7º Celsius (two degrees below normal). On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 11º Celsius and º Celsius.
The weatherman has forecast chilly winds on Tuesday too, though the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to move up to 17º Celsius and 7º Celsius. The peak power demand reached 4,100 MW coming almost at par with the demand in extremely hot conditions.
