4th module busted, wannabe pilot arrested

The crime branch has arrested one more aspiring pilot in connection with the ATP licence scam which was busted by the agency in March following complaints by the country’s aviation regulator DGCA.

The arrested pilot, identified as Rohit Kapoor, 22, was arrested from R.K. Puram in south Delhi on Wednesday.
“This is the fourth module which we have cracked in the scam. More arrests are likely as five pilots and two middlemen are on the run,” DCP (crime), Ashok Chand said
The crime branch officials said that last week the DGCA forwarded to it names of three more pilots who are suspected to have used forged documents to obtain their flying licenses.
The two absconding pilots have been identified as Jigesh G. Bhai Patel and Saurabh P. Lokhande, while one middleman is also on the run, said a senior official.
The total number of people arrested in the scam has now gone up to 19, including three DGCA officials and 11 pilots.
The crime branch has till now busted four modules involved in supplying forged marksheets to help aviation students procure pilot licences.
“Kapoor joined a three-year diploma course in aeronautical mechanical engineering from an aviation academy in Hyderabad and left the course after completing two years. In March 2008, he went to Philippines and joined a flying school. In December 2008, he came to India and appeared for the pilot examination but he could not pass any paper. He once again appeared in all the three exams in April 2009 but could pass only one paper of air regulation,” DCP Chand said.
“Then he went back to Philippines and completed his flying hours and got his CPL in January 2010. In April 2010 session, he appeared in Air Navigation Composite paper for conversion of CPL (Philippines) into CPL (India) but could not clear the exam. In July 2010, he met a contact in Delhi who assured him help on payment of `50,000,” Mr Chand said.
However, there was suspicion over his documents and the file was kept pending for the issue of CPL licence by the DGCA.
