5 Bangladeshi men arrested for robbery
At least five members of a gang of illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been arrested by the east Delhi police for their alleged involvement in a dacoity at Anand Vihar in December 2010. The police said that the dacoits used the same modus operandi that had been used by some Bangladeshi gangs earlier.
According to the police, those arrested have been identified as Abu Jalil, Alamgir alias Rafiq, Abbu Said, Muneer and Alamgir, all residents of Bagerhat and Piraspur districts of Bangladesh. The police has recovered more than `4,000 in cash, besides firearms and some looted jewellery, including gold and silver coins from their possession.
The police said the accused had managed to get in to the house of a senior citizen from the side of the rail tracks in Dayanand Vihar, Anand Vihar, in the early hours of December 11, 2010. They had held the family hostage at gunpoint and escaped with cash and jewellery after staying in the house for about 45 minutes. Following investigations, the police arrested the five accused.
The gang used to recce houses along the railway tracks or nullahs. They would hide weapons and equipment along the tracks during the day time and then stay put in the evening, waiting for night fall. They would then strike in the early hours and usually cut the window grill or the wire mesh on the rear side of the house to get inside.
They managed to send the booty to Bangladesh very quickly through courier. Some times, they also crossed over to their country with the booty.
