5 women, pimp held for running sex racket

Five alleged women sex workers, infamous woman pimp Sonu Punjaban and four touts have been arrested by the south Delhi police. The police has recovered two cars from the accused.

They were offering their services during the cricket World Cup on special requests to their high profile clients. According to the police, a decoy customer was sent to trap one of the suspects Raju Sharma, who was trying to solicit customers at Ignou road-MB road intersection on Friday around 10 pm. The police also arrested Sonu Punjaban, from her residence in Saidullah Jab. Subsequently, women sex workers — in their early 20s — were arrested along with three touts — Arun Thakral, Vijay Kumar and Mohammad Asif — from a flat at Anupam Enclave. The police said that Sonu Punjaban, who is known to have large number of women sex workers on her muster roll, had been arranging parties for her clients in posh areas of south Delhi and NCR. Special parties for World Cup were being organised by her at farmhouses and other high profile places, said the police. Sonu Punjaban, who was arrested earlier on similar charges, was out on bail. She had earlier married a gangster, Vijay, who was shot dead in a police encounter. Then she married another man with a criminal record, Hemant alias Sonu, who too was killed in an encounter with the police.
Sonu, a resident of Geeta Colony, apparently wanted to lead a lavish style, and entered the sex trade on her own. She later went on to organise her own ring recruiting a large number of women and having a high profile clientele.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
