6-coach trains inducted on Dwarka line
The Delhi Metro has inducted two six-coach trains on the crowded Noida Line to ease the rush. The trains began their maiden journey at 9.30 pm Thursday from the Yamuna Bank Station. The passengers can heave a sigh of relief as the trains used to be overcrowded during peak hours.
While one six-coach train will travel between Dwarka Sec-21 to Noida City Centre, the other will make trips between Dwarka Sec-21 to Anand Vihar. Metro plans to increase the number of six-coach trains gradually.
It also plans to introduce six-coach trains on Line 2 (Jehangirpuri-HUDA City Centre) soon. Line 2 and 3 alone carry over 12 lakh passengers everyday.
While the capacity of the four-coach train is 1,200 to 1,500, a six-coach train can accommodate 1,800 to 2,100 passengers per trip.
By the end of 2011 the Metro fleet will have 208 trains of which 113 trains will be four-coach.
