7 students, driver hurt in van-minibus collision

A mini-bus and a van ferrying students from two different schools had a head-on collision in Alipur area here on Saturday morning, resulting in injuries to seven students and a driver, the police said.
According to police officials, the driver of the mini-bus has been arrested for negligence.
“Two of the seven children of St. John’s School travelling in the bus were injured while five of the 10 children in the Rana Model School’s van also sustained injuries. Van driver Dharambir, 38, was also injured,” said a police officer.
A case of negligent driving was registered and mini-bus driver Nitin, 25, arrested, the officer said.
The incident took place around 7 am in north Delhi’s Alipur area.
All the injured students and the van driver were rushed to a nearby hospital and were given first- aid and were then sent home, said the police.
At least seven children of St. John’s School were travelling in the mini-bus when it collided with the Rana Model School’s van carrying 10 children, the police said. Both schools are in Alipur.

2 conmen held for posing as journalists to extort money
New Delhi, Aug. 3: Two men have been arrested for allegedly posing as journalists to extort money from people, the police said on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Ajit, alias Manish, 22, and Chand Singh, alias Sagar, 19, both residents of Meerut.
They had recently visited Kalyanpuri slum area and clicked some pictures. When the residents of the area questioned them, they stated that they were journalists.
On Friday, the duo again visited the slum. They entered a woman’s hutment and threatened to get it demolished if she did not pay them `5,000.
When she refused, they became furious and started abusing her and allegedly manhandled her and tore her clothes, the police said.
The locals apprehended them and called the police.
“During interrogation, it was learnt that Ajit worked as a photographer in a newspaper of Meerut. He posed as journalist and started extorting money in Meerut and Ghaziabad from innocent people by threatening them. They were caught in Delhi,” the police said. — PTI
