70-yr woman murdered
An elderly woman was found dead with her throat slit at her Paharganj residence in central Delhi on Friday morning.
Police officials said the assailants had ransacked the house and some precious items and cash are believed to be missing. The incident took place at the residence of 65-year-old Munni Devi in Paharganj’s Tel Mandi area. The deceased lived with her two sons and their wives at the house. Her other four sons live in different parts of the capital and elsewhere.
The four-story building housed an electrical goods shop on the ground floor. The deceased lived on the first floor while her two sons, Ashok and Inderjeet, resided on the second and third floors, respectively. “On Friday morning, when Ashok returned from morning walk, he saw his mother lying in a pool of blood on the bed in her room and the house ransacked. The police was informed and her body was taken to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash hospital for post-mortem,” a senior police official said.
Officials said that Munni Devi’s throat was slit with a broken bottle and her jewellery was taken away by the assailants. “The entry of the assailants in the house seems friendly,” the official said. The house has a single staircase that runs through one side of the house.
The police has recorded the statements of the family members to establish whether they had any recent property or family dispute. The amount of jewellery reportedly taken away by the assailants has not been established so far. Officials also said that the murder seems to have taken place sometime in the night. Further investigations in the incident are on.
