72-year-old stabbed in his house
A 72-year-old man was on Saturday found stabbed to death in his house at Daryaganj in central Delhi. The police suspects robbery to be the motive behind the incident.
According to the police, the incident came to light when the neighbour of senior citizen Dev Sen, a tent owner living near Jain Temple in Daryaganj, went looking for him and found the house ransacked around 10.30 am. He then informed the police.
Mr Sen’s body was lying on the first floor of the house with his hands and legs tied. The police said there were multiple stab wounds in his abdomen and chest. The assailants had also inflicted injury on his head with a blunt object.
At the time of the incident, Mr Sen was alone in the house. His wife had gone to Indore to attend a marriage, while three of his sons live separately. While one of them is based in east Delhi, the other two live in Gurgaon.
The family members rushed to the house on coming to know about the tragic news. The police said the family members were yet to assess the cash and jewellery that has gone missing.
Following preliminary investigations, the police is suspecting the role of a servant and security guard who had been hired by Mr Sen, as both of them are reported to have been missing ever since the incident came to light.
The police said that Mr Sen had not got his servant and the guard verified.
The police officials are now trying to ascertain the whereabouts of the suspects.
The police is also suspecting that the assailants may have decided to eliminate Mr Sen for fear of him identifying them later and disclosing the same to the police.
A case of murder and robbery has been registered at the Daryaganj police station and further investigations are on.
