8 security heads satisfied with arrangements
So far, not satisfied with the Commonwealth Games preparations, security heads of 31 participating nations, including Pakistan, on Thursday visited the Commonwealth Games sites to have a look at the security arrangements. To add to the woes, only eight security heads of the Commonwealth nations have so far confirmed their
participation after having a look at the security arrangements. The rest of the security heads are likely to give their decisions in a day or two, said a senior Delhi government official. The official added, “There is nothing to worry in the matter as the security heads are only taking the time required to confirm that they are satisfied with the security arrangements of the Games.”
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Games Committee officials on Thursday showed live security demonstrations to the representatives of the Commonwealth countries at the Games Village at Yamuna Bank and Jawaharlal Nehru stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held. “They were shown four-layer security procedure, how to frisk spectators, check vehicles, foil possible terror strike and rescue and evacuation drills,” confirmed a Delhi government official. Over 10,000 athletes from 71 countries are expected to take part in the Games. According to the security plan, athletes, officials and guests can visit the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium only by bus and no VIPs, except the heads of state, will be allowed to take their cars. Parking arrangement has been made for 150 buses in the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. Each of the 13 competition venues for the Commonwealth Games will have tight security ring and special arrangements will be made to transport athletes to and from the village with helicopters carrying commando snipers keeping eye on the convoys below.
