85 shops found selling prohibited drugs

Eighty five chemist shops in Delhi and Rajasthan, some of them based in hospitals, have been found selling prohibited drugs, the government said on Friday.

According to the health ministry, 134 chemist shops were inspected by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), which works under the administrative control of the Drugs Controllers General of India (DCGI). “It was found that in 85 premises prohibited drugs were still available for sale,” a ministry statement said.

All of them have been told not to sell the prohibited drugs. “Further action will be taken after investigations are over,” it added. The drugs in question are Rosiglitazone and its formulations, Gatifloxacin formulations and Tegaserod and its formulations.

The government had prohibited their manufacture, sale and distribution as their usage can pose risk to human beings. The inspections were carried out in parts of Delhi such as Rohini, Pitampura, Tilak Nagar, Dwarka, Green Park, Saket, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar and Patparganj as well as Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.
