9 cases filed at Games Village PS
The Delhi police received 29 complaints of harassment, theft and loss of currency, accreditation cards, mobile phones and passports from athletes and delegates at the Games Village police station. In total nine cases were registered and 20 non-cognisable reports were filed. However, none of these cases have been solved so far with the sources claiming that a majority of them will “die a quiet death”.
“It is very tough to crack cases of petty theft and loss of valuables. But we are making every effort to solve them,” a senior police official wishing anonymity said.
The first case to be registered at the Games Village police station was on a complaint of a Welsh athlete who alleged that an unknown person harassed her when she refused to get photographed. There were reports that some security personnel were involved in the matter but Delhi police refused to confirm the allegations.
Another prominent case was that of three Ugandan officials who were injured when a tyre killer barrier went off accidentally at the Village.
“A technical committee with members from IIT-Rourkee has been formed to examine the fault,” city police chief, Y.S. Dadwal said. “We have registered nine cases in all at the Village. Except for two cases, most of them are of petty theft,” he said.
