Abducted boy traced after 2 yrs
A six-month old boy abducted by a women from a political rally at Jantar Mantar in 2008 was rescued by a Delhi police team from Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
The boy, now almost three-years-old, was rescued from a village in Mathura. The accused woman took away the boy on the intervening night of November 6-7 when the family members were asleep near Jantar Mantar and gave the baby to a woman in Mathura in exchange for some money.
Some poor migrants from Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh had gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest against the government plans of removing slum clusters and illegal constructions in the city. The victim’s family, migrants from Rajasthan, were part of the protest.
“After the rally, we slept in the lawns. Next morning, when I woke up, the baby was missing,” said Raman Singh, the child’s uncle. Raman kept making queries about the boy, the police said.
“Few weeks back, I got information that the child was given to a woman in Mathura. I informed the UP police and the baby was recovered. Then I came to Delhi and informed the cops here,” Madan said. “The accused woman, who is addicted to smack, claims that the child is hers. We will have to get some examinations done to ascertain parentage,” a senior police official said.
