Abducted girl rescued from Nepal
Days after she was abducted from her north Delhi residence, a three-year-old daughter of a railways official was rescued from Kathmandu’s international airport by the Delhi police. The girl Vaibhavi Chaturvedi is a pre-nursery student at a local government school. Her father Venkateshwar Chaturvedi, is an inspector in railways’ planning department.
The police said the abduction took place on June 6. “The child’s parents approached us stating that their domestic help Suraksha Shreshth, a resident of Nepal, had taken Vaibhavi in the morning on the pretext of buying her sweets but hadn’t returned since,” a police official said.
“On June 9, the family received a call, seeking $1.5 million for her release,” the official said. A team of Delhi police, posing as the victim’s family members, nabbed the domestic help and her associates and Vaibhavi was rescued.
