Activists, politicians come out in support of Hazare’s protest

Activists laid siege to the capital’s permanent protest corner, Jantar Mantar, as Anna Hazare began his fast-unto-death along with his supporters on Tuesday. As the day progressed, the supporters and activists exhibited strong determination to take the fight to weed out corruption to its logical conclusion. The presence of social activist

Swami Agnivesh, former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, Magsaysay award winner Sandeep Pandey and the RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal spurred the enthusiasm of the supporters who occupied all the nook and corner of the Jantar Mantar. The supporters cheered the support former BJP leader Govindacharya, who too dropped in to extend his support to Hazare and his supporters. JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav also made his presence at the protest camp. However, the mood of the activists was strongly against the politicians, with one playcard reading “black money trail will lead most likely to politicians (50 per cent), bureaucrats (40 per cent) and 10 per cent to Hasan Ali, drug dealers and their nexus.”
The photographs of Baba Ramdev hung all around the camp of Anna Hazare’s fast unto death, calling upon the people to weed out corruption from the country. With Hazare resting in the background, his supporters sang “de jaayenge de jaayenge Jan Lok Pal Bill de jaayenge (will make the Jan Lok Pal Bill a reality)”.
The youth enthusiasts wearing T-shirts from the group “Citizen’s initiative against crime, injustice and terrorism” actively distributed leaflets to all the interested persons on the demand for Lokpal Bill.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
