Advocates to protest on June 8
Advocates practising in various lower courts in Delhi will go on strike on June 8 to protest against the pre-dawn police crackdown on Sunday to evict Baba Ramdev and his followers from the Ramlila Grounds and also to protest against the malady of corruption in society.
“The advocates feel that the barbaric act of the government was unexpected and unheard of in any other democratic country of the world. This is not a way to treat unarmed sleeping people. Is there no difference between silent protesters and hooldums,” said Rajiv Khosla, spokesperson of the co-ordination committee of bar associations of Delhi on Monday.
The Bar Associations of Patiala House Court, Tis Hazari Court, Dwarka Court and Rohini Court have decided to strike work on May 8.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Delhi Bar Association secretary general Sanjeev Nassiar said it was totally wrong to evict the peaceful protesters by using force and lobbing teargas shells without there being any provocation on the part of the crowd.
He said the crowd had gathered at the Ramlila Grounds after due permission from the police to demand bringing back of black money stashed abroad to the country.
The lawyers alleged, “The government is unnecessarily bringing a debate on the black money as well as the issue of non-inclusion of high court and Supreme Court judges under the ambit of the Lokpal bill.”
